To celebrate the opening of multiple PUMA Outlet stores across the country, PUMA launched a customization cart in 3 locations offering heat-press and patches. Customers were invited to customize their apparel and footwear during the stores’ opening weekends. The artwork was applied to clothes and/or accessories.
I was lucky enough to have been one of the artists chosen to develop an eclectic range of illustrations for these customizations!
For the Des Moines, IA design, the key words/ideas to represent the city were:
Corn, City Skyline, Tractor, Sliced bread (invented in iowa), Tornado (Tornado Alley), Ferris wheel (state fair), State Fair Food, Pig (pigs outnumber people 4 to 1), motorcycle
I decided to take it in a funny direction by combining the sliced bread concept with the pig idea. The final concept was a pig made out of sliced bread- with the prize ribbon on to further emphasize the image of a pig!
For the Milpitas, CA design, the key words/ideas to represent the city were:
Sunset, Palm trees, Coyote, Bear (from flag), Interstate sign, Gold Rush, Silicon Valley reference, Mountains
As a native Californian myself, I thought coyotes were the best representation considering how prevalent they are to the area. Again, I sought to combine multiple concepts into one so I arranged the coyotes into the shape of an interstate sign. I also incorporated mountains in the background to further promote the wildness of California!
For the San Ysidro, CA design, the key words/ideas to represent the city were:
Sunset, Sunset, Palm Trees, Bear (from flag), Taco, Rattlesnake, Poppy flower, Surf board
Margaritas, Canyons
I decided to stick with a more classic concept with this city. Snakes and flowers are a personal favorite of mine to illustrate so I felt very in my element with this one! I liked the juxtaposition of a rattlesnake ready to strike, surrounded by poppy flowers that represented beauty and life.
